Savory Pumpkin Recipes

By Shane YoungOctober 24, 2018

Hello Amigos 🙂

Halloween is around the corner and I hope you have created that spooky atmosphere in your house! This Fall season, we do have some new savory pumpkin recipes.  As always, we like to create a certain ambiance and to compliment that feeling we created a great pump(kin) smoothie recipe for you last year and this year, it gets even better!

As dedicated personal trainers and nutritionists, we are always looking to take it to the next level, or how we like to say here at Ascend #toahigherlevel with one of our savory pumpkin recipes. I wanted to create something that is especially useful post-workout – Something that gives you fast energy (carbs) as well as bricks to help build a bigger house (protein). To help refuel your muscles we use a good amount of carbs in this recipe which we get from the pumpkin, the banana, and the honey. The minerals inside will also help you recover faster. Btw: Bananas themselves are a pure potassium bomb! However, did you know that pumpkin also has a lot of potassium? Potassium is important as it helps keep our heart and other muscles pumping, so what better way to talk about taking our “Pump(kin) it to the next level?”  Of course, our savory pumpkin recipe. 😉

This time around we added more spices which fit in perfectly with this time of year. The spicy and sweet flavors combined will make your mouth explode with various flavors, not to mention it will boost your system with our secret weapons –  cinnamon and ginger  (actually, not so secret as we’ve been using them for a long time, but don’t tell anyone :D). #fatdownmusclesup

Here are also some other delicious pumpkin recipes.

But, before we spend to much time here, let’s dive into the recipe together:

Savory Pumpkin Recipes Below:

  • 1/3 cup pumpkin puree
  • 1 medium banana, frozen
  • 1 Tbsp ground flaxseed
  • 1 Tbsp honey
  • 1/4 tsp of ground ginger
  • 1/4 tsp of ground cloves (powdered)
  • 1/4 tsp of ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1 cup coconut milk
  • 1 tbsp of grass-fed butter (if you want the vegan version go with coconut butter)
  • 2 scoops of protein powder of choice (vanilla works best, but try chocolate too #yammi)

  1. Prepare your spices in a small bowl and powder your ground cloves and add the other spices to it.
  2. Get a blender ready and throw your frozen banana in first, then add all the other ingredients and mix it together.
  3. Serve the smoothie in a glass with some cinnamon on top of it. After that, get another one ;).
