Paleo Beef Tacos

By adminMay 14, 2018

Viva Mexico! If you’ve ever been to San Francisco’s Mission District, you’ve probably noticed the that there are taquerias on almost every block. And one thing you can always find in a traditional taqueria is..TACOS! Mmmm, tacos. Who doesn’t love them? If you look at what’s inside those delicious little tortillas, you’ll find that most taco ingredients are pretty healthy. Generally, those ingredients include beans, meat, avocado and some veggies. The main nutritional problem here is not the tortilla, because you can always swap corn for wheat tortillas (to avoid gluten), the issue is not knowing where all the ingredients come from.

Compared to other fast food, tacos are a pretty cheap deal in SF.  However it is always important to remember one thing: When the cost of a product is low, then the ingredients may not be of good quality. Which means the food might be cheap in the present, but that feeding your body low quality ingredients can cause disease and cost a lot more money in long term.

Which is why we at Ascend suggest you cook at home.  That way, you can control the ingredient quality and make sure you’re giving your body the right kind of nutrients. Today’s recipe is inspired by Diana Keuilian’s recipe for homemade paleo tacos. Trust us, your tummy and your body will say “thank you!”.

Ingredients (for 4 people; 12 tacos):

  • 2 teaspoons chili powder
  • ½ teaspoon sweet paprika
  • ½ teaspoon ground cumin
  • ½ teaspoon onion powder
  • ¼ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ¼ teaspoon sea salt
  • 2 pounds ground beef
  • 12 coconut flour tortillas
  • 1 Tomato, chopped
  • 1 head Lettuce, shredded
  • ¼ cup sliced black olives
  • ½ cup guacamole
  • ½ cup chunky salsa

Preparation:

  1. Grab a big bowl and mix the spices with the ground beef
  2. Fry the beef in a pan with some gee until its done. You should have some little pieces of beef at the end
  3. Fill the tacos with the beef and the other ingredients. The ingredients we suggest are just recommendations. Feel free to experiment with your choices. 🙂
