Green Dream Shake

When I came up with the idea to create the green dream shake, I aimed high. The shake had to be:

  • Mostly fatty based (containing essential fatty acids) but still sweet
  • Easy to make
  • Made with ingredients that are available year-round
  • High micronutrient density 
  • Vegan
  • Natural fat burning and testosterone boosting ingredients 
  • Prevent blood sugar peaks to maximize energy during the day

The reasons for the above are simple: Team Ascend takes a holistic approach to health, and so does my green dream shake. Our bodies need fats, especially essential fats, no matter which diet philosophy we subscribe to. That’s why this shake contains walnuts, which are rich with heart healthy omega-3 fatty acids. To bring the green touch I added avocado. Aside from being delicious, avocado is a real vitamin and mineral bomb.

To balance your natural cholesterol level and support your liver, I added coconut oil. Coconut oil contains HDL (high density lipoprotein), a protein-fat-combination which can help prevent heart problems down the line. 

If you’re thinking this shake already sounds pretty awesome, get ready to be completely convinced. The shake has two more secret weapon: cinnamon and ginger. First, cinnamon is a natural sweetener, and it’s also a natural testosterone booster which helps your body more easily build muscle. Secondly, ginger functions as a natural fat burner through its spicy molecule capsaicin, which increases thermogenesis in your body. 

Let’s move on. Not only does this shake burn fat and boost testosterone, it’s also tasty and delicious. That’s why we use honey (or, for our vegans, agave syrup); to sweeten this baby up and get more vitamins and minerals in there. Plus, there’s apple, which is a low glycemic fruit that will give you a sweet taste without insulin. Almond milk rounds the taste up and provides calcium. Awesome taste, no added sugars.

Last, but not least, we need to make sure to get protein. Bulletproof protein contains no additives, just protein. #nofakes

Ingredients (for 2 portions):

  • 1 avocado 
  • 1 apple
  • 1/2 handful of walnuts
  • 1 teaspoon of honey or agave
  • 1 teaspoon of coconut oil
  • 300 ml of unsweetened almond milk
  • 200 ml of filtered water
  • little piece of ginger
  • little bit of cinnamon
  • 2 scoops of Bulletproof  whey protein

 

Preparation:

  1. Cut the apple, throw everything together in a blender and mix it. That’s it 🙂 Enjoy your green dream shake!
