AND NEVER MISS A NEW POST

Hey Ascenders! How are you doing today? Good? Only good? Or awesome? If you’re just feeling good, well, then maybe one reason is that you get distracted too often. The idea to write about this topic came up after a couple of my last sessions. However, it resonates with me as I grew up in a society of kids constantly staring at their phones. This topic has subconsciously been present for me for over a decade! This blog will go over some focus workout ideas.
Think about it: How easily do we get distracted during our days? Facebook, new trailer of our favorite series on Netflix, a friend texting and after that back to Instagram. I’m sure you know this pattern. We’re highly addicted to dopamine and it’s a problem in so many ways: Not just because you lose connection to real life, but also because you train your body to be dependent on dopamine all the time. It becomes a drug and we lose our ability to focus. It’s the same with getting distracted during our work out sessions: How often do we (yes, me too) find ourselves talking to our friend while the trainer is explaining how to do the exercise properly? In that case a lack of focus on what needs to be done (active listening) can lead to risk of injuries or simply not knowing what to do.
So, problem recognized, but what can we do to prevent that? How to focus during your workout? Here are a few things you can try:
When it comes to having more focus in life the best thing you can do is create clear rules for yourself with a structured plan in the morning or the evening before. We all have a lot to do, but writing it down in a notebook gives us the mental clarity we need to function well. You just have to make sure to hold yourself accountable during those slotted time frames. I highly recommend to also plan a free block during your day to give yourself some flexibility. It gives you a chance to catch up on things or be present and enjoy your free moment!
By the way: When we speak about planning, plan also your social media time. It will help you that you’re not feeling bad afterward, because you accomplished things before and you know what you do at the moment. This is your time and you should use it to have fun :).
When it comes to your sessions, the first thing you can do actually starts before by having the right attitude/mantra. This hour of working out is all yours and you deserve it. Let your body know that an awesome session is coming up and that you are about to have fun! At the same time remind yourself that nothing will distract you. Remember: If you can see it, it will happen. So use this power :).
Another thing which sounds super simple, but actually takes a lot of practice, doesn’t matter if we talk about social media distraction of we’re in a workout session, is awareness when it happens. When you catch yourself in a moment of distraction, notice it and bring your mind back to the present moment. One easy way to do this is by closing your eyes and taking a big deep breath. After that make a clear decision to not let the distraction happen anymore by focusing on what’s important right now: Your health! Just thinking about it for a moment by yourself will change the game.
Pretty cool, right? 🙂
Ok, I will leave you with that for now and I wish you a clear focus. Remember: If you’re failing to plan, you’re planning to fail.
All the best,
